I have heard quite a few people say that rebates just don't seem to work for them. I know they don't work for me. I do not know anyone personally who has ever actually received a rebate check on anything they purchased, and mailed in the rebate application, within the past few years. I also notice that most manufacturers do not handle their own rebate programs. Instead, they contract with another company (probably a "shell" company that can appear-disappear very quickly) to take care of the rebates. I have assumed they do this for legal protection from the few consumers who might think of getting a class action suit together.

My response has been to totally disregard any mention of rebates when I am deciding whether to purchase a product or not. If I decide to buy it, I do so with no illusions of receiving any rebate. I think most consumers have arrived at this same conclusion and  follow the same course of action.

I purchased a Kaser Corp M64-32P Video Card from Fry's on May 26, 2001. The product had a $25 rebate. Kaser rebate #0513.

I registered the product with Kaser and sent in all required paperwork but never received the rebate. I sent them a follow-up letter but got no response. John LeDuc

I talked to the manager at Fry's and told him my story. He gave me an in store $25 credit.

So I am pretty much satisfied with Fry's. They went beyond what I expected.
