Disabling MS Office 2000 FindFast

FindFast making your PC slow to a crawl? Tired of HD Disk Thrashing? Disk Activity LED lighting up when nothing is going on or suppose to be? Turn It OFF! This particular Office 2000 junk does not install by default on Win2000 PC's, only on Win9X PC's. Here's how to handle it + more info:

Deleting an Index

To delete a Fast Find index, use the following steps:
  1. Click Start, Settings, click on Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Find Fast.
  3. On the Index menu, click Delete Index.
  4. In the In And Below box, click the location of the Find Fast index you want to delete.
  5. Click OK.

Turn Off the Find Fast Indexer

To turn off Find Fast, delete the Find Fast index files by following these steps:
  1. Click Start, Settings click on Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, double-click Find Fast.
  3. In the "Index for documents in and below" list, click the first item.
  4. On the Index menu, click Delete Index. In the Delete Index dialog box, click OK. When you are prompted to delete the index, click OK.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until no more indexes are listed.
  6. Click the Index menu. If the Run When I Log On check box is selected, click it to clear the check box.
  7. On the Index menu, click Close and Stop . If you are prompted to stop Find Fast, click OK.
