APM (Advanced Power Management) The Old Way of Power ManagementA Software Programming Interface (API) from Intel and Microsoft for battery-powered computers letting Programs communicate Power Requirements to Components for conserving energy. Under APM, the BIOS controlled Power Management without the knowledge of the Operating System. APM is to AT as ACPI is to ATX. The APM software interface specification defines a layered cooperative environment in which Applications, Operating Systems, Device Drivers and the APM BIOS work together to reduce Power Consumption. APM extends the life of System batteries and thereby increases Productivity and System availability. APM is also useful in Environments and Applications such as Portables in Docking Stations, Desktops on a Network, and Energy conscious Power Managed Desktops.
